There is some debate as to who was the mother of John Jackson? His father married four times and the debate is whether it was the first wife, (1) Jane LAW, or the second wife, (2) Margaret CLARK who was John's mother. One statement is made that "His mother died when he was young; he and his stepmother were not compatible so he left home at the age of twelve."
Research indicates that John's occupations included Gambling and Real Estate Development. He established two different towns: Cozad, Dawson Co., NE and Cozaddale, Warren Co., Ohio.(Additional Notes: 1-Cozad, NE now has the ROBERT HENRI MUSEUM in honor of their son Robert. 2-Cozaddale: unincorporated community in southeastern Hamilton Township, Warren County, Ohio).

John married Theresa GATEWOOD, daughter of Robert Burke GATEWOOD and Julia Ann JONES. John and Theresa had six children, but only two survived to adulthood.

1-John Anthony COZAD (aka Frank SOUTHRN; prominent Philadelphia, PA physician) (1863-1933)
2-Robert Henry COZAD (aka Robert HENRI; famous painter) (1865-1929)
John and Theresa, after Oct 1882, through an unfortunate affair, moved the family from their residence of about 10 years in, Cozad, NE. Father, Mother and 2 sons, changed their names to become incognito. "Reveal True Story of John J. Cozad"
From The Cozad Local, Tuesday, November 27, 1956.
Portrait of John J. Cozad
...
The portrait painted by his son, Robert Henri (aka: Robert Henry Cozad), said to be completed 17 Jan. 1903, shows Mr. Cozad at the age of seventy-two, just three years before his death. It has a distinguished air, a gentle reserve, revealing little of the turbulent years that were past. He was then known as Mr. Richard Lee, the retired gentleman and not even his closest associates guessed his real identity.
