BAXTER Dorothy Etta Shanks, 85, of Baxter was memorialized in funeral services Tuesday, July 5, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Baxter Funeral Home with burial in Smellage Cemetery in the Boma community.
Mrs. Shanks died Sunday July 3, 1988 in Cookeville Health Care Center.
Born April 5, 1903, in Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Richardson Whitehead. She was a homemaker.
Her family includes 6 sons, J. V., Harold Shanks of Allen Park, MI, Roy D. Shanks of Hendersonville, Mack R. Shanks of Silver Point, and Billy Ray Shanks, Freddy W. Shanks, and Solon Shanks, all of Baxter; one brother, John Whitehead of KY, and 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Shanks was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Craven Shanks.
