William & Sarah had an earlier son they named John Goslin but he died at two years old. This John was born a couple years later and they reused the name.

Died in the Battle of Dug Hill. Also referred to as the Battle of Calf Killer. Debate exists to whether the exact location was in Putnam County or White County. He was a member of Company I of the 5th Tennessee Cavalry, USA.
